Box Score Erie Pa. - The Mercyhurst Women's Basketball team took on FDU today, dropping their fourth conference match 77-63.
How It Happened:
The Lakers came out in the first quarter of today's match against FDU on fire. Allyson Ross got the team started with a driving layup. After this play, the Lakers were able to keep FDU scoreless for the first two minutes of the game. Their gritty effort on defense combined with their quick attack kept the Knights on their toes and unable to counterattack. Mercyhurst combined for five three-pointers scored in the first ten minutes, three of which came from Jenna Van Schaik, the other two coming from Allyson Ross and Cici Hernandez. The score going into the second quarter was 25-19, the Lakers leading.
Bailey Kuhns made her mark in the second quarter, as she was the only player to get on the board for the Lakers. Kuhns put up eight points off of a combination of a jump shot and three lay-ups. Going into halftime with a score of 39-33, FDU ahead, Kuhns headed the charge, leading Mercyhurst in both points and rebounds.
In the second half of this afternoon's game, FDU pulled away, their size and strength giving the Lakers trouble under both nets. Despite the struggle to score, Mercyhurst did not back down from the challenge, continuing to fight for plays on both ends. Jenna Van Schaik's gritty work on offense helped the Lakers stay in the game, though it ended in a loss. The final score of the match was 77-63, FDU.

Jenna Van Schaik led Mercyhurst in points today, totaling 28. Bailey Kuhns followed with 19 points, she also led in rebounds with 6.
Despite the loss, Mercyhurst led over FDU in three-point percentage, field goal percentage, and defensive rebounds.
