Erie, PA- Mercyhurst Field Hockey is back in action this weekend as they host their first home game against Sacred Heart University on Friday, September 6th at 1:00 PM and then quickly turn around to travel to Villanova University to take on the Wildcats on Monday, September 9th at 5:00 PM.
Laker Outlook
Mercyhurst kicked off their season last Sunday against NEC opponent Rider University. Despite a valiant effort, the Lakers could not hold on as they fell 0-7 to the Broncs. However, they are coming into this pair of games with a fresh week and motivated to capture a victory. Against Rider, sophomore Rachel Kosowski had one shot on goal and freshman Delaney Lentz had one shot attempt. Defensively, senior goalkeeper Kayla Desormeau racked up 26 saves on the day and junior Jen Kemp had three defensive saves. The Lakers are ranked 9th in the NEC based on the latest poll.
Scouting Sacred Heart
The Pioneers started their season against Drexel University, losing to them 1-2 on August 30th. Quickly after that, Sacred Heart played Villanova University. They fell to Villanova as well with a score of 0-3, bringing their overall record to 0-2. Sacred Heart has yet to play a conference game, with Mercyhurst being their first. Based on the latest poll, the Pioneers are ranked 7th in the NEC.
Scouting Villanova
The Wildcats fell to James Madison University by a score of 1-2 to start the season. However, they recently defeated Sacred Heart University by a score of 3-0. Villanova is now 1-1 overall so far this season. The Wildcats are part of the Big East Conference, where they are currently ranked 6th based on the latest poll.
