Lakers Prepare for First Home Game as DI Program

Erie, PA- In an anticipated week four matchup, the Lakers faced a very formidable opponent in the MSU Bobcats, suffering a 52-13 defeat. The Lakers fall to 1-3 but will now host their first home game as a Division I program, welcoming Frostburg State to town. The game is scheduled for Saturday, September 28th at 1:00 pm.
 
A Look Back
In last week's matchup, the Lakers ran into the #3 team in FCS. Performing in front of 25,000 people, the Bobcats took control early, jumping out to a 31-0 lead at the half.
 
Mercyhurst found the scoreboard with a fumble return touchdown by freshman DB Adonis Marshall. Adam Urena later threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Joe Kerbacher late in the second half. The final stats heavily favored the Bobcats, with total yards at 502-233, rushing yards at 256-20, and passing yards at 246-213.
 
Scouting the Bobcats
After facing the Bobcats of MSU, the Lakers will now face the Bobcats of Frostburg State. Mercyhurst is 6-5 all-time against the Bobcats, last playing them in 1995, losing 21-7.
 
FSU is coming off a dominant second-half performance in their 54-21 home victory over Concord on Saturday afternoon. FSU was dominant on the defensive end from start to finish as well.
 
Doyle led FSU's offensive attack with 99 yards and three touchdowns, while Fulton passed for 188 yards and two touchdowns. Gibson was the top receiver with 61 yards, and FSU's defense recorded nine sacks, tying a program record. Senior Keion Richardson topped the defensive efforts with eight tackles.
 
Through three weeks, Frostburg State is on top of the MEC conference, leading all teams in scoring (44.7 ppg). The Bobcats also lead the conference on the defensive side of the ball, allowing only 16.7 points per game through the first three weeks of play.
 
Up Next
After the four-game road stretch, three against first-time opponents, the Lakers play against MEC member in Frostburg State at 1pm this Saturday. This will be the first contest between the two teams since October of 1995. The Lakers will stay at Saxon Stadium the following Saturday when the Lakers host Buffalo State on Homecoming Weekend.
