Box Score Erie, Pa.- The Lakers snagged their second straight win as they blanked the visiting UMBC Retrievers 3-0 on Thursday. The game served as the first Division I home win for any sport at Mercyhurst.
How it Happened
UMBC came out and had control of the ball for the first few minutes of action. The Retrievers managed to take three shots in the first five minutes of action, two of which were saved by Senior
Kate Costantini. But it was the Lakers who ultimately struck first. Sophomore Maddie Sievering made a slick pass off of a free kick that Graduate Student
Emily Mijares got a hold of and buried in the back of the net to give the Lakers a 1-0 lead.
Four minutes into the second half, Sievering scored a goal of her own as she received a dish from Junior Anna Clark. The Lakers added a little extra insurance in the 85
th minute when Junior
Mia Maruna scored off an assist from Sophomore
Annabel Arhin. Sievering, who was named an NEC Prime Performer last week, was named player of the game after her solid offensive performance.
