Field Hockey Ready to Begin First DI Season

Lawrenceville, NJ- Mercyhurst Field Hockey kicks off their season with their first Division I game and first NEC matchup this Sunday, September 1st against Rider University. The action is set to begin at 12:00 p.m. 

Laker Outlook 

Last season, Mercyhurst finished 10th in the PSAC and went 2-14 overall, defeating Robert Wesleyan University twice. The Lakers have some key returning players that bring strength in this new era. Senior goalie, Kayla Desormeau, made 156 saves last season, which was the fourth most in Division II, and averaged 10.4 saves per game. Junior Jen Kemp also returns, who racked up seven defensive saves last year. Juniors Maddie Huffer and Delfina Magro come back after contributing three assists each last season and sophomore Rachel Kosowski returns after scoring three goals in the 2023 season. 

Scouting Rider

Rider University finished fourth in the NEC last season. They had an overall record of 7-11 and finished with a 4-3 record in the conference. The Broncs were ranked fourth in this year's NEC preseason poll.

After their matchup with Rider University, the Lakers will host their home opener against Sacred Heart University on Friday, September 6th at 1:00 p.m.
