Erie, PA-The Mercyhurst Softball team is starting to heat up, and it comes at a perfect time, as the team now enters the bulk of PSAC Play. The Lakers are currently 4-7 in the conference and now begin preparing for doubleheaders against Clarion, Cal, and Seton Hill University. The Lakers will host Clarion and Cal on Wednesday (4/10) and Friday (4/12) before heading to Seton Hill on Saturday, April 13th.
Laker Leaders:
Neena Pietripaolo has been scorching hot for the Lakers, hitting .340 on the year. Madison Fry-Fachet has continued to be a consistent bat for Mercyhurst, posting a .330 batting average. Fry-Fachet has also shown some power as of late, slugging for 4 doubles and a triple. Bailey Cannon (.313) and Eliza Reynolds (.297) have also been steady for the Lakers, coming through with big hits in each of Lakers most recent victories. Alexa North, Mikaela Schramski and Morgan Hilty split duties from within the circle and have combined for all the Laker wins besides one, which belongs to Bailey Cannon.
Scouting Clarion
Clarion is 9-15 overall and 4-4 in conference. Clarion brings 5 hitters to the plate who hit over .300. The Golden Eagles can be vulnerable defensively, as opposing offenses hit around .300. Mercyhurst has dominated Clarion in the past, winning 26 of the last 29 contests.
Scouting Cal
Despite hovering around .500 on the year, Cal posts a solid conference record. 6 of the 9 starters for Cal hit over .300 and the Vulcans have proved to be a team that finds ways to get on base and score runs. Opposing teams can do that same however as Cal holds a 4.68 ERA. Cal was able to take the first 2 games this year, but there is no doubt the next two will be just as exciting.
Scouting Seton Hill
Seton Hill has proved to pose the biggest threat this year, as 4 players have continued to hit over .400. The Griffins have also hit 43 homeruns and 74 doubles this year. Lauren Dellett and Logan Hartman lead the way from within the circle as both have already totaled double digits wins this season.
