Erie, PA- In the last ever PSAC meeting between Gannon and Mercyhurst softball, the Lakers fell short of the Golden Knights in game one, 3-2 and dropped the night cap, 8-2. The doubleheader puts a wrap on the 2024 season as the Lakers look forward to Spring 2025.

How it Happened

Game One

The Golden Knights struck first in game one, sending two runs across to gain an early lead. They added on in the 2nd, scoring a third run after a double in the gap. Alexa North then got out of trouble in the third to keep the score, 3-0.

Brynna King singled in the 5th, which was followed up by a Madison Fry-Fachet walk to put runners on first and second. Eliza Reynolds then hit a bases clearing double off the wall in right center to pull the Lakers within one, 3-2. In the bottom of the 6th, the Lakers loaded the bases again but failed to push any runs across as the score remained 3-2 heading into the 7th. Mercyhurst put together solid at bats in the final frame but fell short 3-2.

Alexa North pitched a stellar game, throwing a complete game, allowing 3 runs while striking out 7 Gannon hitters.

Brianne Egelston collected 2 hits in the loss and nearly walked it off in the 7th with a long ball to the warning track. Eliza Reynolds doubled and had 2 RBIs.

Game Two

Gannon used a couple of long balls to earn an advantage in game two, pushing the score to 4-0 through three innings of play. Mercyhurst used many pitchers in the night cap as Marisa Cartellone pitched her first inning of the year and recorded a strikeout.

With nobody out in the 4th, the Lakers loaded the bases and scored their first run of the game thanks to an Eliza Reynolds RBI. Gannon extended the lead in the 5th, adding two more to the board to make the score 8-1. Mercyhurst added another run in the bottom of the 7th thanks to a leadoff double off the bat of Mikaela Schramski. She came around to score on another Eliza Reynolds knock. The game ended with an 8-2 score.

Cameryn Mullaly, Morgan Hilty, and Marisa Cartellone each singled in the loss while Mikaela Schramski doubled.
