Lakers Enter Final Stretch

4/22/2024 8:53:00 AM

Erie, PA-The Mercyhurst softball team is coming off a successful weekend, winning three of their last four. They've also climbed their way into the top 5 in the PSAC West with only three more contests to go. On Tuesday, April 23rd, the Lakers will travel to Edinboro for a 2:30pm first pitch before traveling to Clarion later in the week. They will then host Gannon on Saturday, April 27th.

Laker Leaders

The Laker offense has turned a corner throughout the last couple of weeks. Hitting just under .300 as a team, Mercyhurst has tallied 61 hits in the last 5 games alone. Neena Pietropaolo (.393) and Madison Fry-Fachet (.355) pace the Laker offense, using their plus speed to make things happen. Eliza Reynolds (.345) and Kacie Irwin (.336) have also been hot as of late, collecting numerous multi-hit games. The deep Laker pitching staff is led by Alexa North, who leads the team in appearances and in ERA (5.66). Mercyhurst looks to ride the momentum into the final stretch, hoping to solidfy a postseason berth.

Scouting Edinboro

Edinboro is sitting in 7th place in the West. After splitting the first doubleheader, the Fighting Scot's have been up and down throughout conference play. They feature similar numbers but haven't been playing as well as the Lakers lately. Edinboro is led by Adaline Maguire, who not only hits .340 but has proven to hit for power as well.

Scouting Clarion

Along with UPJ, Clarion rounds out the bottom of the PSAC West standings. Despite not having much success this year, the Golden Eagles did manage to take a game from the Lakers earlier in the year. The two teams seem to be going in opposite directions however as Clarion has only won 1 game in their last 11.

Scouting Gannon

Depending on how this week goes, this doubleheader could be crucial for the Lakers. Gannon currently sits in 2nd in the West. As they've done often, Mercyhurst worked a split with Gannon earlier in the year. Gannon sends a few very dangerous hitters to the plate. They also feature Maggie Lenda, who has been efficient from within the circle this year, posting a 2.21 ERA.

Up Next

If the Lakers remain in the top 5 in the West, The PSAC Championships begin on Wednesday, May 1st in Quakertown, PA. The times are TBD.
