Indiana, PA-Coming off their first week of PSAC West play, the Mercyhurst Softball team will now get into the bulk of their schedule after today's game, with doubleheaders against Indiana University of Pennsylvania and The University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. The games will be on Thursday, March 28th and Friday, March 29th.
Scouting IUP
IUP is fresh off a 26-23 season and is currently 15-7 on the year, most recently splitting with Gannon. Led by Paige Truax, who is currently hitting .433, the Crimson Hawks hit .306 as a team and hold their opponents to a .280 BA. Kendall Young leads the team in innings pitched and posts a 2.25 ERA.
Scouting UPJ
Coming off a 15-29 season a year ago, the Panthers come into this matchup with only 3 wins. UPJ sends only one hitter to the plate that posts an average over.300, and that is Tori Radvan. With a team ERA of over 7, the Panthers have struggled to keep hitters off the base paths so far this season.
Laker Leaders
Relying on the consistency of Madison Fry-Fachet, the Lakers seem to go as she goes. Hitting .362 on the year, the Laker leadoff hitter can do a bit of everything. The rest of the Laker batting order is also beginning to come into their own as Marisa Cartellone, Kacie Irwin, Neena Pietripaolo , and Alexandra Acosta-Reyes all recorded multiple hits in the doubleheader with Seton Hill this past weekend.
The Mercyhurst staff has also started finding its groove, with Morgan Hilty and Mikaela Schramski stringing together dominant innings as of late. This is a squad that can be very dangerous as they get hot.
Up Next
Next week the Lakers will make the short trip to Edinboro before hosting Clarion. Mercyhurst will round out next weekend with a doubleheader at Gannon.
