Box Score 2 Erie, PA- The Mercyhurst Softball team hosted Slippery Rock this afternoon for a PSAC West doubleheader. It took extra innings to find a winner in game one, but Slippery Rock found a way to win 6-5. In game two, the Lakers snuck out a win, 1-0, to earn a split with the Rock.
Game One
Ashlyn Harvery got the start in game one for the Lakers. Harvey started the game strong, striking out the leadoff batter. The Rock then strung together a couple of hits to take a 1-0 lead. As the Lakers came to the plate, they loaded the bases with three consecutive walks, but couldn't send any runners across.
Mercyhurst continued to threaten in every inning but couldn't seem to get the big hit, until Marisa Cartellone came through with an RBI double in the bottom half of the third to tie the game at 1-1.
Alexa North then came into the game in relief of Ashlyn Harvey, and settled in right away, keeping the Rock scoreless. The later innings of game one started heating up as Slippery Rock took a 3-1 in the 6th. Mercyhurst again responded in the home half of the inning with 4 runs of their own. The 5-3 lead didn't last long however as the Rock found a way to send the game to extra innings before eventually earning a 6-5 win in 8 total innings of play.
Neena Pietripaolo and Kacie Irwin each provided two hits in the loss. Marisa Cartellone and Bailey Cannon drove in runs for the Lakers.
Game Two
The night cap turned out to be a battle from within the circle, as there was only run scored the entire game. Morgan Hilty had another great outing, tossing 6 and a third innings, while scattering just 6 hits. Mikaela Schramski came on in relief and earned the save.
Mercyhurst accumulated 5 hits in game two, and Marisa Cartellone came through once again with a big RBI single to centerfield to score Eliza Reynolds for the only run of the game.
