Box Score 2 South Euclid, OH- A week removed from their spring games in Florida, the Mercyhurst Softball team traveled to Ohio this afternoon to take on Notre Dame College. Coming in with a 3-8 record, the Lakers dropped game one, 3-1 and won game two, 5-1.
How it Happened: Game One
The two teams went scoreless in the first two innings, as each pitcher found success the first time through the opposing batting order. The Lakers then took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning when Marisa Cartellone hit her second homerun of the season. The Falcons answered in the home half of the 4th, benefiting from a solo shot themselves to tie the game at one apiece.
Mercyhurst started cooking again in the top of the 5th as Alexandra Acosta-Reyes pinch hit and singled. Brynna King then pinch ran, stole second, and moved to third on a single from Madison Fry-Fachet. The runners on the corners were left stranded however as the Falcons got out of the jam.
Benefiting from a pair of walks, a stolen bag, and a single, the Falcons were able to gain the lead in the bottom half of the fifth inning, 2-1. Notre Dame earned an insurance run in the 6th to make the score 3-1, which held firm for a final score.
