Lakers Challenge Notre Dame College in Mid-Week Doubleheader

Erie, PA- After closing out their spring games in Florida this past week, the Mercyhurst softball team returned to Erie to begin preparing for the bulk of their schedule. Mercyhurst is currently 3-8 on the year and will first take on Notre Dame College on Wednesday, March 13th. The doubleheader is scheduled for 3:00PM and 5:00 PM.  

Scouting Notre Dame 

Notre Dame is coming into the game after having a successful start to the season. Notre Dame is currently 12-5 on the year, having won 8 of their last 9 games. The Flacons have had quality wins over Southwest Minnesota State, Ashland, and Dominican University of NY.  

Notre Dame is led by Danielle Fick (.398) and Destany Blake (.356) who are both hitting for high averages. Fick also provides power for the Falcons as she's already tallied 6 doubles and 3 triples on the season.  

Allison Weilnau and Grace Fisher have been dominant from within the circle for the Falcons, combining for a sub 3.00 ERA while striking out 60 total batters.  

Laker Leaders 

Madison Fry-Fachet (.306) and Kacie Irwin (.296) lead the Lakers offensively, as both had strong outings throughout the spring games. Brianne Egelston has also been a tough out, posting a .344 on base percentage. 

Mikaela Schramski and Bailey Cannon lead the Lakers in innings and have shown that they can dominate opposing offenses. Combining for 24 total strikeouts, Schramski and Cannon join Morgan Hilty, Ashlyn Harvey, and Alexa North to make up a dynamic pitching staff that now looks to get back on track against Notre Dame College.  

Up Next 

The Lakers will have a quick turnaround and welcome D'Youville University for their home opener on Tuesday, March 19th. The doubleheader is scheduled for 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM.
