Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst Women's Ice Hockey team hosted Robert Morris for game one of a best of three series in the CHA Semifinals. Robert Morris led from start to finish in a 5-0 shutout win over the Lakers. Robert Morris takes a 1-0 series lead.
How it Happened
After a scoreless first period, the Colonials broke the scoreless tie with a goal by Shailynn Snow. Chloé Puddifant took a shot that was blocked, but Snow found the puck amongst the traffic in front of the net and scored. With seconds left in the second period, Thea Johansson had a breakaway to tie the game, the puck found its way into the net but after the buzzer. The game remained 1-0.
32 seconds into the third period, Jersey Phillips extended the Colonials lead to 2-0. At 13:35 in the third period, the Colonials got another, this one came off the stick of Courtney Hall. Alaina Giampietro scored an empty net goal and Laura Eustace added another one late to extend their lead to 5-0.
Highlights
Ena Nystrøm saved 32 shots in the game, including 17 in the second period.
Kylee Mahoney won 13 face-offs, while only losing 3.
Megan McKay, Emmi Mourujärvi, and Thea Johansson each blocked two shots.
Sofia Nuutinen led the team with seven shots on goal.
