Box Score

Erie, PA- Coming off a recent loss at Edinboro, the Mercyhurst Women's Basketball team welcomed Seton Hill this afternoon as they looked to rectify a previous defeat suffered earlier in the year. The Lakers got the best of the Griffins today with a 82-64 win, bringing their overall record to 16-8.

How it Happened

Seton Hill took an early lead off the tip-off, which was quickly followed up with an additional breakaway layup. Danielle Grim put the Lakers on the board with a one dribble pull up to make the lead 4-2. Paige Woodford then cashed in a three and Bailey Kuhns earned three the hard way to put the Lakers ahead 8-7. Grace Clary also continued her effective long-range shooting with a three mid-way though the quarter to give the Lakers a one-point lead heading into the first media timeout. Late quarter buckets by Paige Woodford and Bailey Kuhns helped Mercyhurst gain a 18-15 advantage after one quarter of play.

The back and forth continued as the second quarter got underway as Julia Buchman got into the lane for two. Allyson Ross then hit a corner three off great ball movement to keep the game tied at 25. Ross found the score sheet once again on the following possession with a sweet scoop shot underneath. Sophia Kelly helped extend the Laker lead midway through the quarter with a three of her own to make the score 32-27. As the Griffs fought back, Danielle Grim found a cutting Grace Clary who hit a mid-range jumper to put the lead back at 4 as the two teams entered halftime.

Bailey Kuhns led the Lakers with 11 points and 5 rebounds in the first half.

The Griffins brought the deficit back to one possession to start the second half, but Bailey Kuhns and Danielle Grim answered back with baskets of their own. Jenna Van Schaik and Julia Buchman then took over the next three possessions as they each converted to build the Mercyhurst lead to 13. Paige Woodford and Allyson Ross started pouring it on too, as the lead quickly ballooned to 21 at the end of the third quarter.

The Lakers didn't leave any doubt in the fourth quarter as their commanding lead remained firm for the final 10 minutes.
