Mercyhurst Dominates Bryant and Stratton College in a Record-Breaking Game at Home

Erie, PA- Mercyhurst Women's Basketball team takes on Bryant and Stratton College at home.  

How it Happened:


    Mercyhurst was hot from the start this afternoon. Ten Lakers got on the board in the first quarter alone, scoring thirty-four points total. Allyson Ross, Cici Hernandez, Maria McConnell, Alena Fusetti, and Quinn Borroni each sunk threes, whilst Bailey Kuhns, Jenna Van Schaik, Singo Lekeuneu, Grace Strickland, and Lauryn Stover contributed to this high-scoring first ten minutes from the paint and the free throw line. Mercyhurst put on a clinical performance defensively as well this quarter, tallying twenty rebounds and nine steals. The final score of the first was 34-4, with the Lakers taking the lead. 

    The Lakers continued the attack in the second quarter, taking the score to 59-16 by the end. Bailey Kuhns, Alena Fusetti, and Maria McConnell were Mercyhurst's leading scorers in the first half. The Lakers were able to hold Bryant and Stratton to sixteen points as well this quarter due to their lockdown defensive effort. Allyson Ross headed the charge defensively, leading the team in both rebounds and steals.  

    The third and fourth quarters proved no different for Mercyhurst, who still dominated both offensively and defensively. The Lakers broke multiple school records this afternoon, scoring the highest number of points in Mercyhurst history AND earning the largest margin in history with a sixty-six point lead to end the game. Records are meant to be broken! The final score of today's matchup was 109-43. 

Highlights:

Bailey Kuhns led the Lakers in points today with eighteen, followed by Alena Fusetti who totaled fourteen for the afternoon. Allyson Ross made a huge impact both offensively and defensively, leading the team in both assists and steals. Maria McConnell led the team in rebounds with eight.

The Lakers will travel to Ithica, New York to take on Cornell University on Wednesday, November 27th at 1 p.m.
