Lakers Ready for Pair of Matchups

Youngstown, OH- Mercyhurst Women's Basketball is ready for another week of play. They will travel to Youngstown, OH to face Youngstown State University on Tuesday, November 19th at 11:00 AM. Then, they return home on Sunday, November 24th at 1:00 PM to take on Bryant & Stratton College. 

Laker Outlook

Mercyhurst enters another week with high hopes as they start their season with a 1-3 record. The Lakers secured their first win of the season last week, defeating Davis & Elkins College handedly by a score of 67-51. Soon after, they traveled to Xavier University and fell by a score of 68-53 after a hard-fought game. Junior Bailey Kuhns leads the Lakers in points, scoring an average of 16.3 points per game. Junior Jenna Van Schaik leads the team in assists, averaging 3.3 per game. Senior Allyson Ross leads the Lakers in rebounds, averaging 4.5 per game. Mercyhurst ranks 5th in the current NEC Standings. 

Scouting Youngstown State

The Penguins have had a successful start to their season, as they remain undefeated with a 3-0 record. They have defeated Lake Erie College, St. Bonaventure, and most recently, Clarion. Youngstown State is led by Jewel Watkins, who leads the team in points, averaging 19 per game. Abby Liber leads the Penguins in rebounds, averaging 9.7 per game. Malia Magestro leads the team in assists, averaging 2.7 per game.

Scouting Bryant & Stratton

The Bobcats are 2-2 so far this season. They started the season with two losses coming from Harcum College and Monroe Community College. They have recently picked themselves up, as they are now on a two-game win streak. This past weekend, they defeated Central Penn and Penn State Scranton. The Bobcats are led by Amaree McKnight, who leads the team in points, averaging 13.7 per game. Kha'Niya Evans leads the Bobcats in rebounds and assists, averaging 5.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game.

After their slate of games this week, the Lakers will travel to Ithaca, NY to face Cornell University on Wednesday, November 27th at 1:00 PM.
