Erie, PA- Mercyhurst Women's Basketball is ready for another week of play. They will face Davis & Elkins College in their home opener on Tuesday, November 12th at 6:00 PM. Then, they will travel to Cincinnati, OH to take on Xavier University on Friday, November 15th at 7:00 PM. 

Laker Outlook 

The Lakers kicked off their season last week with a pair of road games against the University of Notre Dame and DePaul University. Their battle with the top-ranked Fighting Irish proved to be a tough one, as they fell by a score of 105-61. There was a quick turnaround as they faced DePaul just two days later. The Lakers fought hard against the Blue Demons, forcing turnovers and racking up threes. Mercyhurst ultimately fell by a score of 74-53, forcing the Lakers to a 0-2 start. Despite facing two tough opponents, Mercyhurst held their own and has shown that they will be a force to be reckoned with this season. Junior Bailey Kuhns leads the Lakers in points, scoring 33 between the past two games. Freshman Cici Hernandez leads the team in three-pointers, racking up four so far. Graduate student Grace Clary leads the Lakers in rebounds, with eight so far. Junior Jenna Van Schaik leads the team in assists, with six so far this season. 

Scouting Davis & Elkins 

The Senators had their season debut last week, falling to both teams and starting their season with an 0-2 record. They fell to Slippery Rock University by a score of 79-42 and also fell to Gannon University by a score of 78-40. Davis & Elkins is part of the Division II Mountain East Conference, in which they were ranked last in their conference preseason poll. Jahniya Marion leads the Senators in points, with 17. Josiany Canales leads the team in rebounds and assists, with 11 rebounds and four assists so far this season. 

Scouting Xavier 

The Musketeers started their season with a 1-1 record. They fell to San Jose State by a score of 55-36. They picked up their first win against Miami University of Ohio, defeating them by a score of 71-66. Xavier was ranked last in the Big East Conference Preseason Poll. Meri Kanerva leads the Musketeers in points with 21 so far. Loren Christie leads the team in rebounds with 13. Petra Oborilova leads the Musketeers in assists with 7 so far this season.
