Maryland Heights, Mo. – The Mercyhurst Lakers Women's Ice Hockey team returns to action this weekend when they travel to Lindenwood for a two-game conference series. The series opener is set for Friday at 5:00 PM CT, with game two scheduled for Saturday at 1:00 PM CT. 

History 

Since 2011 the Lakers lead the series against Lindenwood 43-8-1.  The Lakers have won 15 of the last 16 matchups, including a current eight-game winning streak in the series.  The Lakers swept the season series a year ago 4-0, averaging 5.25 goals per game.   

Laker Outlook 

Mercyhurst enters the series with a 2-6-1 overall record.  Thea Johansson leads the Lakers in scoring with 5 goals and has been a consistent offensive presence, while Vanessa Upson tops the assist chart with 6 helpers. Sofia Nuutinen has contributed on both ends, adding 4 points through 9 games. Defensively, Magdalena Luggin has been a standout in net with a .950 save percentage and 2.12 goals-against average over four starts, while Jorden Mattison has added strength in goal with a .921 save percentage in six appearances. 

The Lakers have been strong defensively, allowing only 2.3 goals per game, and will aim to improve on their scoring as they average 1.2 goals per game. Special teams will play a critical role in the series, as Mercyhurst looks to capitalize on power plays, converting at a 9.1% rate this season. 

A Look at Lindenwood 

Lindenwood comes into the weekend with a challenging start, holding a 0-7-1 record. Offensively, the Lions are led by Sidney Jackel, who has posted 5 points with 2 goals and 3 assists. Chloe Corbin and Silje Gundersen have each contributed three points, while Morgan Neitzke adds a steady presence with 3 points and a team-high 23 shots on goal. 

Goaltender Madison Bowtell comes in posting a .865 save percentage with a 4.96 goals-against average over eight games. Backup goalie Anna LaRose has made four appearances with a .843 save percentage.
