10/3/2024 11:00:00 AM

Erie, Pa. – The Mercyhurst Women's Ice Hockey team continues their 2024-25 season this weekend as they travel to St. Cloud State.  The Lakers will look to build momentum after splitting their opening series with Colgate, while St. Cloud State enters the matchup with a perfect 2-0 record.

History

The Lakers lead the all-time series 10-2-2 over the Huskies.  Their last meeting was a season ago, the Lakers taking game one 2-0, but the Huskies grabbed game two 1-0 earning a series split.

Laker Outlook

Mercyhurst comes into the weekend with a 1-1 record and ranked #15 in the country. The Lakers dropped game one to Colgate 3-2 but bounced back in game two with a 4-3 win in overtime on a Makayla Javier game-winner.  Thea Johansson found the back of the net twice in game one. Vanessa Upson dished out three assists, including an assist on the game-winner. On the defensive end, goaltender Jorden Mattison has been solid, posting a .870 save percentage, and 40 saves through two games.

A Look at St. Cloud State

St. Cloud State comes into the matchup with a 2-0 record after sweeping their opening series. The Huskies are ranked #11 in the country.  The Huskies have been powered offensively by Emma Gentry, who leads the team with 3 goals, and Greta Henderson, who has added 2 goals of her own. The Huskies are averaging 5.00 goals per game while allowing only 1.00, thanks in part to goaltender Sanni Ahola, who boasts a .950 save percentage through the first two games.

Defensively, St. Cloud has been strong, with Ella Anick and Dayle Ross leading the charge on the blue line. The Huskies' ability to capitalize on scoring chances and lock down defensively makes them a formidable opponent for the Lakers.

Next Up

Following the weekend series against St. Cloud State, the Lakers will remain on the road when they travel to #8 St. Lawrence.
