Erie, Pa. – The Mercyhurst Lakers Volleyball team fought hard but ultimately fell to Central Connecticut State in a close five-set match (22-25, 25-20, 25-17, 22-25, 12-15) at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon.
How It Happened:
The first set saw a competitive start with both teams battling for control. Despite a strong offensive effort led by Andrea Zaric and Trinity Tatupu, the Lakers fell just short, losing 25-22. Mercyhurst responded in the second set, hitting .250 as a team and winning 25-20 to even the match.
In the third set, the Lakers built momentum, taking a 25-17 victory with standout performances from Zaric and Tatupu, both contributing key kills. Central Connecticut State bounced back in the fourth set, edging out Mercyhurst 25-22 to force a decisive fifth set.
The final set was a nail-biter, with both teams exchanging leads multiple times. Despite a strong push from Kaitlin Murphy and Paige Miller, Central Connecticut State clinched the match with a 15-12 win.
