Erie, PA & Teaneck, NJ- The Mercyhurst Men's Soccer team has been preparing for a slate of matchups against Le Moyne College on Thursday and Fairleigh Dickinson University on Sunday. They have four matches remaining, all of which are against NEC opponents.
Lakers Run of Form
Mercyhurst is currently 6-6-1 on the season and 3-0-1 in conference play. The Lakers sit second in the conference. They are tied at 10 points with Le Moyne and Saint Francis. They are coming off of a 3-3 draw against Stonehill this past Sunday. They were up 3-0 in the first 20 minutes but went on to concede three goals in a match for only the second time this season. The Lakers will look to leading goal scorer,
Dylan Sumner, to create chances going forward. Sumner also leads the teams in assists and shots.
Luis Felipe Santos will also be a key player in this match as he has three goals this season and has the second most shots on target behind Sumner. The Lakers have scored 20 goals this season, averaging a goal and a half per game. They have impressively had eleven different goal scorers. Defensively, the Lakers have conceded 18 goals. However, of their six losses, they have yet to lose by a margin greater than two goals.
Scouting the Dolphins
Le Moyne is 6-2-4 this season and are also 3-0-1 in conference play. They are in first place in the NEC rankings, narrowly sitting above Mercyhurst based on their overall conference record. They beat Central Connecticut State 4-0 last time out in what was their fifth shutout of the season. The Dolphins may look to Jack Goodrich for goal scoring opportunities as he leads the team in goals. However, the team has scored 23 goals this season, with seven players registering two or more goals. Like the Lakers, they have had eleven players get on the scoresheet this season. Le Moyne has only conceded 11 goals this season and have not lost by a margin greater than one goal.
Scouting the Knights
Fairleigh Dickinson is currently 5-4-4 on the season and 1-2-1 in the conference. They are currently seventh in the NEC standings. Their most recent match was a 3-1 home defeat to Stonehill College. They play Chicago State at 7:00 PM Central Time (CT) on Thursday before facing Mercyhurst on Sunday. The Knights have scored 19 goals this season and conceded 20. Senior forward Kevin Leonhard leads the team and the NEC in goals with eight scored so far. Leonhard's ability to find the back of the net this season will be a key factor for their matchup against Mercyhurst.
