Erie, Pa. – The Mercyhurst Lakers Volleyball team faced off against Saint Francis on Thursday afternoon, falling in straight sets (12-25, 24-26, 23-25) at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center. Despite a strong effort in the second and third sets, the Lakers were unable to capitalize on key moments, dropping to 2-14 overall and 1-5 in NEC play, while Saint Francis improved to 9-9 overall and 5-1 in conference action.
How It Happened:
Saint Francis came out strong in the first set, hitting .556 as a team and overwhelming Mercyhurst with a dominant 25-12 win. The Red Flash used efficient attacking and took advantage of Mercyhurst's early struggles to establish control.
The second set saw a much-improved Mercyhurst squad, as the Lakers pushed Saint Francis to the brink in a tightly contested set. Paige Miller and Andrea Zaric led the offensive charge, but Saint Francis managed to edge out a 26-24 win, taking a 2-0 lead in the match.
Mercyhurst continued to fight in the third set, with Kaitlin Murphy and Brice Hansen stepping up defensively and offensively. Despite their efforts, Saint Francis sealed the match with a narrow 25-23 win to complete the sweep.
