Box Score Slippery Rock, PA- Getting back on track earlier this week with a win over Clarion University, the Mercyhurst Women's Basketball team took care of business on the road this evening with a victory over Slipper Rock, 66-41. The Lakers move to 13-6 on the year and 10-4 in conference heading play into the weekend.
How it Happened
Bailey Kuhns got the Lakers on the board two minutes into the game with a pump fake on the baseline which allowed her to get to the rim for two. Danielle Grim then helped set the tone early with a three pointer from the wing. Kuhns and Grim continued to pour it on early as the two remained aggressive in the opening quarter to give Mercyhurst a 14-6 lead.
The Lakers settled in to start the second quarter as Kuhns continued to have her way. Jenna Van Schaik also converted a fast break layup off a great feed from Danielle Grim to extend the lead to 15. Julia Buchman made her presence known midway through the quarter after knocking down a three and hitting a pair of free throws. Ava Waid and Sophia Kelly provided great minutes off the bench in the quarter, each knocking down shots to make the score 32-20 going into halftime.
Danielle Grim and Bailey Kuhns led Mercyhurst in the first half, posting 10 and 9 points respectively. Maria McConnell was the leading rebounder for the Lakers in the first half with 5 boards.
Holding the Rock to just 29% shooting, Mercyhurst shot an impressive 52% from the field in the half.
A short run out of halftime saw the lead decrease to 8, but Paige Woodford didn't let it last long as she hit a three from the top of the key to quiet the run and extend the lead back to 11. Another 9-2 run for Slippery Rock kept them in the game with 3 minutes remaining in the third, as they worked the score back to 39-33. Bailey Kuhns and Danielle Grim had seen enough and picked up the slack, combining for 7 straight points to regain a 15-point lead heading into the 4th quarter.
A steady dose of Bailey Kuhns helped the Lakers close the door in the 4th, as the Sophomore forward scored 7 points to begin the fourth quarter. Jenna Van Schaik and Sarah Hortin helped in the effort to put the Rock away, as Mercyhurst ran away with a 66-41 victory.

Bailey Kuhns led the Lakers once again with 21 points and 3 rebounds. Danielle Grim was stout once again, posting 14 points and 5 rebounds.
Mercyhurst shot an amazing 16-18 from the free throw line for the game.
