Lakers Settle for Series Split with Robert Morris

Moon Township, Pa. - The Mercyhurst Women's Ice Hockey team looked to continue their win streak when they took on Robert Morris in game two of their weekend series.  After getting out to a 1-0 lead, the Colonials scored two unanswered to grab the game two win.

How it Happened

At the 7:43 mark of the first period the Lakers went on the power play.  Like they did the day before, the Lakers were able to get on the board on the power play.  Chantal Ste-Croix slipped the puck past the goaltender for the goal.  The Lakers took a 1-0 lead.  A few minutes later the Colonials made a rush towards the net with a chance to tie the game, but Ena Nystrøm made a kick save while laying on her back to keep the puck out of the net.  The Lakers made another rush late in the first period to try and get another goal before the intermission, but couldn't convert and settled for a 1-0 lead after one period of play.  Ena Nystrøm finished the first period with 14 saves.

Both teams traded power play opportunities early in the second period and both penalty kill units did their job to get each side back to full strength.  A few seconds after the Lakers killed off a penalty, the Colonials tied the game at one.  The Lakers went on the power play late in the second and will start the third period with the advantage.  Ena Nystrøm finished the second period with 11 saves.

In the first two minutes of the third period the Colonials took a 2-1 lead, their first lead in either game.  The Colonials tried to add to their lead, but Ena Nystrøm continued to stand tall in the crease.  The Lakers made one final push to try and tie the game at two, but couldn't get the tying goal.
