Greensburg, Pa. - The Mercyhurst Volleyball team traveled to Seton Hill for a PSAC match today. Seton Hill was able to hold off the Lakers and win the match in three sets.
How it Happened
Seton Hill started set one with a kill and a service ace, but the Lakers were able to tie it up with a kill from Maggie Thomas and a kill from Andrea Zaric. Seton Hill rattled off a 7-2 run to take a 9-4 lead early in set one. During a stretch run where Kate Hennessy had a kill and a service ace, the Lakers were able to draw within one. A kill by Alexa Mitchell tied it all up at 14. A few points later Andrea Zaric added a kill to make it 17-15 in favor of Seton Hill. Seton Hill went on a 6-0 run to make it 23-15. They were able to get the last two points and take set one 25-16.
Maggie Thomas got the scoring started for the Lakers with a kill right out of the gate in set two. Back-to-back kills from Ersa Ackay and Kate Hennessy brought the score to 8-7 in favor of Seton Hill. A few points later, Mevelyn Brazoban joined the scoring with a kill to tie it up at 11. Kate Hennessy gave the Lakers a one-point lead with a kill, and then Maggie Thomas gave the Lakers a two-point lead with a kill. Late in the set, Kaitlin Murphy added a kill to bring the Lakers to within one. Seton Hill got the last point they needed to win the set. They took set two 25-23.
Seton Hill started set three on a quick 4-0 run. The Lakers climbed back into the game with a couple of kills and service aces from Kate Hennessy. It was now 15-11 in favor of Seton Hill. Kate Hennessy and Mevelyn Brazoban added kills during a stretch run where the Lakers got the set to within one point. Seton Hill scored the next four points to take the set 25-20, and the match 3-1.
