Lakers Travel to New York for Series with St. Lawrence

Canton, NY. - The Mercyhurst Women's Ice Hockey will hit the road this weekend as they travel to Canton, New York for a weekend series against St. Lawrence.   

A Look at the Opponent 

St. Lawrence is coming off a 17-19-3 year including a loss to Quinnipiac in the ECAC semifinal.  St. Lawrence returns their two leading scorers in Julia Gosling and Abby Hustler.  Gosling led the team with 46 points (21G, 25A), and Hustler was second on the team with 36 points (16G, 20A). The Lakers and St. Lawrence split their series a season ago. The Lakers won the first game 4-6, while St. Lawrence won the second game 5-2. 

Recap 

The Lakers hosted Post this past weekend.  The Lakers won game one 5-0 and won game two 2-0.  In game one the Lakers were led by Thea Johansson and Sara Boucher as they both had a goal and two assists.  Sofia Nuutinen and Sofia Ljung both scored their first career goals in the game.  Kylee Mahoney added a goal of her own.  Sydney Pedersen, Chantal Ste-Croix, Vanessa Upson, and Mary Kromer all had assists on the five Laker goals.  Ena Nystrom saved all seven shots she faced.  In game two Kylee Mahoney and Vanessa Upson tallied the two goals for the Lakers.  Thea Johansson, Henlee Mahoney, Sara Boucher and Sofia Nuutinen all added assists.  For Henlee Mahoney that was her first career point.  Ena Nystrom saved all ten shots she faced.   

Stats Leaders 

Sara Boucher and Thea Johansson are tied for the team lead with four points each (1G, 3A).  Kylee Mahoney is third on the team with three points (2G, 1A). Ena Nystrom is leading the team in saves with 17 and has two shutouts. 

Honors 

Sofia Nuutinen was named CHA Rookie of the Week for her performance in the first two games of the season.  Nuutinen scored her first career goal in game one of the series and followed that up with an assist in game two of the series. 

Puck drop for game one of the series on Friday is set for 7 PM. Puck drop for game two of the series is set for 3 PM.
