The Mercyhurst Women's Soccer team continues their season this week as they prepare to take on the Fighting Scot's of Edinboro University on Wednesday September 27th, and the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown this Saturday, September 30th.
Entering the week with a 6-1 record, the Lakers have proven to be a strong contender heading into the bulk of their schedule. With notable wins over Slippery Rock and Gannon, this Mercyhurst group now receives national recognition.
Edinboro comes into the match with a 2-2-1 record, most recently tying UPJ in a 1-1 match. After being selected seventh in the PSAC West pre-season poll, the Scot's bring back all six players that scored goals in the 2022 season, led by three goals each from Megan Malits and Reece Enochs.
Last season, the Lakers beat Edinboro early in the season by a score of 3-1. The two teams then tied later in the year.
Led by the offensive prowess of Karah Van Horn, the Lakers bring a balanced attack to the table, as 12 different players have scored at least one goal through seven games.
On Saturday, the Lakers welcome UPJ to Saxon Stadium, in what will be a 2:00 PM kick. UPJ is currently 1-5-2 on the year, with their lone win coming against Cal. Sixth-year Head Coach Vito Addalli and the Pitt-Johnstown women's soccer team have been picked to finish eighth in the pre-season poll. Last season, the Lakers swept their series with the Mountain Cats. They'll look to duplicate their performance this season.
Wednesday's game in Edinboro is slated for 6:00 PM and the Lakers return home for a 2:00 PM kick off on Saturday.
