Mercyhurst Looks to Ground IUP in Week Four Matchup

Erie, Pa. - After suffering a loss at the hands of Kutztown this past weekend 47-14, Mercyhurst football hopes to rebound as they return to their friendly confines. The Lakers take on IUP in their week four contest with kickoff set for 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 23rd.

Friendly Confines

Head Coach Ryan Riemedio won his first game as the head coach at home in week two in the 2023 home opener against Lock Haven, 41-29. It was a game dominated by the passing game for the Lakers as quarterback Adam Urena threw for over 300 yards for a second straight game while accumulating five passing touchdowns. Mercyhurst hopes their win inside Saxon Stadium last time around will provide some momentum this time against IUP.

Laker Leaders

Urena leads the way in passing as he now has 81 completions for 896 yards to go along with eight passing touchdowns. His favorite receiver up to this point has been Cameron Barmore who has a team-high 16 receptions for 186 yards and four TDs. He is followed by Rylan Davison with 14 grabs for 131 yards while Trevon Tate rounds out the top three with 11 catches, 165 yards, and one receiving touchdown which came last week against the Golden Bears. On defense, Christian Taylor leads the way with 26 total tackles while Anthony Mackey has 17 for second. Camden White comes in third with 15 while adding a pair of sacks to his line to go along with a force fumble and a fumble recovery.

Scouting the Crimson Hawks

IUP is 2-1 to this point in the season with their loss coming at the hands of East Stroudsburg in week two in a low scoring, 13-12 final. The passing game has been a good one for the Crimson Hawks as QB Karst Hunter has 248 yards per game with a completion percentage of 58.1% and eight touchdowns. His favorite target has been the PSAC West Week One Offensive Athlete of the Week, Quinn Zinoble, who is second in the conference in receptions with 18 for 309 yards and four TDs.

Next Game

After playing IUP, the Lakers makes the short trip to Edinboro for their next game in week five. Mercyhurst sees the Fighting Scots at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 30th, inside Sox Harrison Stadium.
