Erie, Pa. - After securing their first win of the 2023 season this past weekend against Lock Haven, Mercyhurst Football looks to make it two in a row against the Golden Bears this Saturday, September 16th.

A Look Back

Mercyhurst and Kutztown have played a total of five times in the past with the Golden Bears coming out on top in four of those matchups. Their most recent win came in 2022 when Kutztown put up 50 inside Saxon Stadium in a 50-31 final. Mercyhurst's only win in the series came on the road in 2016, giving the team hope they do so again this time around.

Throwing a Fit

After a stellar debut against Ferris State, Adam Urena had another great performance against Lock Haven, going 28-33 through the air while throwing for over 300 yards in a second-straight game while adding five passing touchdowns to his line. The junior quarterback now has 57 completions on the season to go along with 617 yards and six touchdown passes, all within the top two in the conference, with a pristine 142.28 passer rating as well.

Barmore's Brilliance

Urena's favorite target to this point in the season has been Cameron Barmore who had one of the best games of his career this past Saturday against Lock Haven. The native of Sherman, N.Y. hauled in six catches for 70 yards with three of his receptions going for touchdowns to give him hist first three TD game and the third multi-score game of his career. He now has 15 catches for 175 yards and four touchdowns with his catches and TDs being first in the PSAC.

Scouting the Golden Bears

Kutztown is 0-2 to this point in the season after suffering back-to-back 31-20 losses to Assumption and Cal (Pa.). The Golden Bears play at home for the first time this season against the Lakers, hoping get win number one of the year. They rank in the top five in the PSAC on defense in passing and total yards per game allowed while giving up 31 points per game for the fourth-most, making for an interesting defensive profile. On offense Darryl Davis-McNeil gets it done on the ground with 164 yards to this point in the season to lead all rushers while Kurtis Ravenel Jr. has 12 catches for a conference best 264 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Next Game

After Kutztown, Mercyhurst returns home to see IUP on Saturday, September 23rd, at 1:00 p.m. for the team's Faith and Family Night.
