Box Score Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst Women's Soccer team hosted Slippery Rock University tonight at Saxon Stadium and came away victorious, defeating the Rock 5-0. Mercyhurst has now won four straight games and bring their record to 4-1 as they head into their rivalry game with Gannon this Saturday.
How it Happened
The Lakers scored their first goal of the night off of a beautiful pass from Teagan Mehalko. From the near side of the field, Mehalko centered a kick to Corinne Morgan who was able to beat the keeper to give Mercyhurst a 1-0 lead.
Only a couple minutes later, the Lakers were able to bury another attempt as Alyssa Poleski found Karah Van Horn.
With only a minute and half left in the first, the Lakers put a stamp on a dominate half by converting their third goal. From midfield, Maycen Anthony dropped an absolute dime to Rebecka Habursky who blasted a shot into the top right corner of the net. The Lakers went into halftime with a 3-0 lead.
The Laker momentum quickly carried over into the second half as Karah Van Horn scored her second goal of the night just over two minutes in. With the opposing goalie playing up, Van Horn chipped a ball up in the air and found an open net.
The Lakers didn't stop there as Madison Hoover lined up a corner kick and found Chloe Kalina for a header to make it 5-0.
Behind a great defensive performance from the Lakers, the squad has now held their last four opponents scoreless and have outscored their opponents 12-0 in the last three games alone.
Highlights
Corinne Morgan remained aggressive offensively scoring her third goal of the season. Karah Van Horn converted her first two goals of the year, while Teagan Mehalko collected her first assist of the season.
Maycen Anthony also added a second assist to her season stat line, while Rebecka Habursky scored her first goal of 2023.
Chloe Kalina joined in on the fun and scored her first goal of the year, while Madison Hoover secured her third assist.
Maddie Elbro put together another strong performance with 3 saves and a shutout.

The Lakers will make the short trip north of town to take on Gannon University on Saturday night, September 16th with kickoff scheduled for 6:00 PM.
