Erie, PA. - Mercyhurst Men's Soccer looks to build on a stellar year last year as they open the 2023 season with a pair of home games against Goldy-Beacom College and Georgian Court University.

Flashback
The Lakers finished the season with a record of 19-1-1 (10-0 PSAC), which placed them atop the PSAC West. With their record the Lakers earned a bye in the PSAC tournament. The Lakers would defeat East Stroudsburg, and Bloomsburg to claim the PSAC tournament title for the first time since 2016, and earning a spot in the NCAA tournament, where their dream season ended with a loss to Post University. The Lakers would have to say goodbye to Sean Kerrigan, their leader in goals (20) and points (47).

Coming Back
The Lakers have brought back some talent from last year's team. Dylan Sumner, who was second on the team in goals (9), and points (33). He also led the team in assists with 15. Also coming back for the Lakers are Jorge Tallada Torres and Lockie Fay. Tallada Torres finished the year fourth on the team in points with 12, and Fay finished the year fifth on the team in points with 11.

New Faces
Headlining the new faces for this year's team is first year Head Coach Austin Solomon. Solomon was the Associate Head Coach a season ago and was promoted this offseason. Also new to the coaching staff is Assistant Coach Andrew Bennett. Bennett is a former player, who also spent time as a volunteer coach from 2018-2020 after his playing days were done. The Lakers are also welcoming a new class of 13 freshmen, and five transfers.

The Lakers are 2-0 all time against Goldy-Beacom College, with the most recent win coming in the season opener a season ago 5-1. The Lakers are 1-0 all time against Georgian Court University, with the only matchup coming a season ago, where the Lakers came out on top 4-0.

A Look Ahead
The Lakers hit the road following the two opening home games but return home on September 23rd against West Chester. The Lakers open up PSAC play at crosstown rival Gannon on September 27th.
