INDIANA, Pa. - The Women's Lacrosse team upset IUP today, May 2, 2023 to advance to the PSAC Semifinal round.
Maggie Newton scored in the second overtime to earn the 11-10 win.
Quarter One
IUP opened up the scoring at 6:59.
The Lakers then went on a streak to score four-straight at 6:05, 3:55, 2:03, and 00:37. Victoria Gottorff scored the first, Whitley Easton claimed the second and third, while Maggie Newton scored the fourth.
IUP forced the score to 4-2 going into the next quarter.
Paige Maneri had two saves while the team claimed four ground balls.
Quarter Two
Amanda Bailey earned the team's fifth goal at 13:33.
The Crimson Hawks followed with three unanswered goals to tie the game 5-5.
The team was perfect on their clears, while Maneri made three more saves.
Quarter Three
Newton was having a day and stole the lead back for the team at 13:52.
The game was tied again after the Crimson Hawks scored at 9:38.
Kiera Boettcher earned her fourth of the season and the lead at 5:08.
Megan Milliard drove the lead to two with a between the legs goal at 2:30.
IUP immediately followed with goals at 1:47 and 00:09 to tie the game at eight.
The Lakers won four draw controls and were 5-5 on their clears.
Quarter Four
Newton wanted a third goal, and her wish was granted at 11:04 to take the lead once more. This also happened to be her 40th goal of the season.
The Crimson Hawks were relentless and tied the game once more at 9:02. They took the lead, 9-10, at 3:20.
Meghan Nasman was determined as she tied the game with only 1:03 on the clock. Millard grabbed the assist.
Maneri was strong in the net, making four saves this quarter.
Overtime
The first three minutes of overtime was uneventful, and the teams went into an additional three.
Newton was the decision maker of the game and pulled through to score the game-winner at 1:41.
