Erie, Pa. – Mercyhurst Softball travels to Quakertown, Pa. to take part in the PSAC Tournament as they take on Kutztown on Wednesday, May 3rd with the game is scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m.
1. Regular Season
The PSAC West competition was tight to the last day of action, with only a few wins separating the top teams. Seton Hill secured their lead with an impressive record of 22-8 in conference play and finishing 29-15 overall, defeating IUP in their last doubleheader. Mercyhurst finished close behind with a record of 21-11 in conference play and 31-19 overall. The Lakers won their last four games of the season and are looking to bring that winning momentum into the postseason. Slippery Rock and California (Pa.) finished third and fourth respectively, with identical records of 19-13 in conference play, and Gannon trailed behind in fifth place with a record of 17-15.
2. PSAC Tournament
After last year's historic run to the PSAC Championship game, the Lakers are coming back to Quakertown with high hopes. They begin the competition with the match against Kutztown, the team they fell to in the last year's final. The PSAC Tournament is played in the double-elimination format, with defeated teams falling to the loser's bracket, where they have to play more games.
3. Individual Leaders
Allison Dejidas leads the charge with an impressive .451 batting average, 1.323 OPS, and 47 runs in 50 games played this season. She also registered 14 home runs, and she is tied for the most home runs in a single season in the program's history. She is also tied for the most home runs in the PSAC this season with Shippensburg's Hannah Marsteller also boasting the same number of them.
Madison Fry boasts a .417 batting average, 77 hits, and 22 stolen bases this season.
Eliza Reynolds also has a respectable .386 batting average and 51 hits this season and she is followed by
Kacie Irwin with .357 and the same number of hits.
4. Scouting Kutztown
The Golden Bears finished third in the PSAC East Standings with a 28-22 conference record, and a 22-10 conference mark. They have defeated Shippensburg twice in their last double-header of the regular season, winning by a score of 5-2 and 12-7. Sarah Harvey leads the charge with a .392 batting average, 56 hits, and a team-high eight home runs. She is followed by Brianna Stocklin with a .357 mark and 61 hits, and Kristin Geesy with a .351 batting average and 47 hits.
