Lakers Play Trio of PSAC Opponents

Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst Softball gears up for another full week with Edinboro coming to town on Tuesday, April 4th, before the team heads to Clarion on Friday and then rounds out the week with cross-town rivals Gannon on Saturday with a pair on the Mercyhurst Softball Field.

1. Looking Back

Mercyhurst hopes to turn the tide against Edinboro with them holding a 14-25-1 all-time against the Fighting Scots. The Lakers had a very solid campaign in 2022 against their counterpart with a 3-1 record, hoping to carry that momentum into the new year. Mercyhurst has owned Clarion with a 19-2 record against the Golden Eagles with a perfect 10-0 record at home while beginning the all-time series with 17 straight wins. Mercyhurst has gotten the better of Gannon of late with wins in five of the last six games while holding a 19-28 record against them all time.

2. Team Leaders

The Lakers have three players with an OPS above 1.000 with Allison Dejidas leading the way at 1.274 with Cheyenne Hindman not too far behind at 1.070 and Madison Fry rounding out the group at 1.020. Dejidas leads the team in extra-base hits with 13 as she has hit eight doubles and a team-leading five home runs. Hindman is second in bombs with four while trying Dejidas in doubles. Morgan Hilty has been the go-to in the circle with 68.2 innings pitched and an 8-4 record, bolstering a 3.06 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP.

3. Scouting the Scots

Edinboro is 9-11 on the year to this point with a 3-5 PSAC mark after splitting a pair with Seton Hill over the weekend. The Fighting Scots have found it tough sledding of late with just one win in their last five tries, hoping to reverse their fortune. Mackenzie Quider has been the best bat in their order as she leads the team in batting average (.302), OPS (.901), hits (16), doubles (6), and RBIs (9). The rest of the offense has struggled as Edinboro finds themselves near the bottom of most PSAC offensive categories.

4. Scouting Clarion

The Golden Eagles are 11-9 on the year overall with a 2-4 record in the PSAC with them dropping two games to Gannon last Tuesday. The Golden Eagles have not found their home ballpark to be as friendly as they have hoped with an 0-4 record at home. Clarion has three players with an OPS above .900 with Alyssa Stitt leading the way at 1.237 with a .441 average to go along with two triples and three homers.

5. Scouting the Golden Knights

Gannon holds a 7-13 record on the year with much of their success coming in PSAC play as they sit tied for second in the PSAC West with a 6-2 mark alongside Mercyhurst. They have been able to get on a roll of late with five straight wins, defeating their opponents 29-9 over that span. The offense has struggled to this point in the year with the third-lowest batting average while holding the ninth-highest SLG at .400 in the PSAC. Their pitching has not been quite up to snuff either as they have the third-highest team ERA and the third-high batting average against among conference teams.
