Erie, Pa. - With another week in the books, another pair of PPG Athletes of Week are named. The Lakers saw a number of great performances in the third week of April, but none stood out more than Allison Dejidas of Softball and John Susnik of Baseball.
Dejidas and the Lakers played six games on the week with the team winning all six of their games by a margin of 44-11 with the native of Freeport, Pa. being a big reason for such a dominant week. She finished 2-3 in her first game with a pair of doubles and four RBIs, helping set the tone for what would be an excellent stretch. Dejidas followed up with two hits in the team's opener against UPJ on Friday with both of her hits going over the wall for her 10th and 11th home runs of the year.
On the week overall, the senior outfielder hit for a .444/.545/1.333 triple slash line with all eight of her hits going for extras bases with four doubles and four home runs while adding 14 RBIs to her line. Her power was not the only thing on display as she walked four times without striking out once. Dejidas has been one of the better bats in the country with a .447 batting average with 13 home runs, 15 doubles, and 55 RBIs. She comes into the new week in the top three in the PSAC in OPS, home runs, RBIs, and SLG as Dejidas cements her spot as one of the best in program history.
Mercyhurst rounds out their regular season schedule this week with six games. They begin with Edinboro on Tuesday, April 25th, with the Lakers finishing out their home schedule with Clarion on Friday before traveling to Gannon on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
John Susnik made a major contribution at the plate for the Lakers with his biggest being a walk-off home run in the 3-1 victory against Cal (Pa.) on Friday, April 21st. The junior backstop hit 7-13 (.538) on the week with a 1.000 SLG and a pair of home runs. He had two hits in three of his four games on the week with the one one-hit game coming in game three when Susnik bashed his second homer of the week and third of the year. The native of Willoughby, Oh. was a major RBI machine as well with five of the team's 19 runs to his ledger.
On the season overall, Susnik is batting .281 with a .370 OBP and a .453 SLG. He has been one of the better power hitters in the Laker's lineup this year with a trio of home runs to be tied for the third most on the team. The catcher has hit his stride in the month of April as he is hitting .405 on the month, giving the team some life down the stretch of the campaign.
Mercyhurst sees Notre Dame (Oh.) on Wednesday for one nine-inning game before seeing IUP on the weekend. The Lakers go to Indiana, Pa. on Friday, April 28th, with the two teams set to play at the Mercyhurst Baseball Field the following day.
