Erie, Pa. – Mercyhurst Softball enters their final week of the regular season as they hit the road to take on Edinboro on Tuesday, April 25th. They follow that with a home doubleheader against Clarion on Friday, April 28th, and finish the week with a matchup against Gannon on Saturday, April 29th.
1. Playoff Picture
With yesterday's victories against IUP, the Lakers strengthened their position in the second spot in the PSAC West standings. They currently have a 17-9 conference record and sit right behind Seton Hill (18-6). The Lakers are followed by Slippery Rock (15-9) and Cal (Pa.) (14-10). The final week of competition is set to decide the playoff bracket as multiple teams have a chance to climb up the ladder and are within a couple of games from each other. The Lakers are currently on a six-game winning streak and are looking to take their winning momentum into the postseason.
2. Individual Leaders
Mercyhurst has some impressive individual leaders based on their overall batting statistics.
Allison Dejidas stands out with an impressive .447 batting average, 1.336 OPS, and 41 runs in 44 games played. She also registered 13 home runs this season, with two of them coming in yesterday's matchup against IUP.
Madison Fry also has great stats with a .417 batting average, .939 OPS, and 23 stolen bases this season.
Eliza Reynolds also boasts a respectable .351 batting average and 39 hits this season, and she is followed by
Kacie Irwin with .344 and 43 hits in 44 games played.
3. Scouting Edinboro
The Fighting Scots sit at the seventh spot in the standings with conference record of 9-17. The Lakers have already defeated them twice this season, winning the first game by a score of 4-0 and the second 2-1. With three PSAC doubleheaders this week, Edinboro is looking to make their final push to make it into the postseason play.
4. Scouting Clarion
The Golden Eagles are currently eighth in the PSAC West as they sit right behind Edinboro with a conference mark of 8-20. In their last matchup with Mercyhurst, the Lakers recorded their best offensive output of the season, defeating their opponents by a score of 17-5. The squad is looking to repeat that success of Friday, April 28th, with their last regular season home game.
5. Scouting Gannon
The Knights sit in fifth place in the standings, as they boast 14-10 conference record and have a busy week ahead of them. They are set to play Cal (Pa.) twice, then Slippery Rocky, and finish things off with a matchup against their cross-town rivals Mercyhurst. Gannon will be determined to finish the season strong and climb up the ladder to strengthen their chances of going far in the postseason play.
