Softball Dominates Pitt-Johnstown

Erie, Pa. – Mercyhurst Softball dominates Pitt-Johnstown on the road, winning the first game by a score of 10-1 and the second 5-1. The Lakers move up to 25-17 on the season and 15-9 conference mark as they climb to the second spot in the PSAC West standings.

First Game

The Lakers started the game well as Cheyenne Hindman singled to right field in the first inning, which led to Eliza Reynolds advancing to second and Allison Dejidas advancing to third while Madison Fry scored a run, 1-0. Jessica Clark fouled out to left field, which allowed Dejidas to score another run, making the score 2-0 in favor of Mercyhurst.

In the second inning, Anna O'Geen singled down the right field line, which brought in Francesca Latino to make it 3-0. The Lakers extended their lead in the third, as Reynolds scored a run, 4-0.

In the fourth inning, Dejidas, homered to center field, making the score 5-0. Pitt-Johnstown managed to score a run in the same inning but Mercyhurst responded in the fifth when Dejidas hit another home run, making the score 8-1.

The Lakers struck again in the sixth as Latino registered another home run and brought in Clark, making the final score 10-1.

Second Game

Hindman once again started the game well for the Lakers, as she homered to the left field to make it 1-0.

In the third inning, Dejidas flied out to the left field, which allowed Fry to score, increasing Mercyhurst's lead to 2-0. Clark then singled to left field, bringing in Hindman and Reynolds, 4-0.

In the fifth inning, Reynolds singled to left field, which allowed Dejidas to score as the score then stood at 5-0. Pitt-Johnstown managed to score a run in the same inning when Tori Radvan singled to center field, 5-1. The game eventually ended with that score as the Lakers took home another win.

Playoff Picture

Seton Hill still sits at the top of the standings with 17-9 conference record, and they are followed by Mercyhurst and Slippery Rock at 15-9. Gannon is right behind with 13-9 record, and Cal (Pa.) is next with 14-10 conference mark.

 

What's Next

The Lakers travel to Indiana, Pa. on Sunday, April 23rd, to take on the Crimson Hawks with the first game scheduled at 1:00 p.m.
