Softball Wins Two

Erie, Pa. – Mercyhurst Softball dominates Slippery Rock at home, winning the first game by a score of 5-2 and the second one 8-5. The Lakers move up to 23-17 on the season and boast 13-9 conference mark.
 
First Game
The game started with Mercyhurst taking the lead in the first inning, with Anna O'Geen reaching first on an error by Slippery Rock's pitcher, which allowed Madison Fry to score a first run of the match, 1-0. Later in the inning, Allison Dejidas grounded out to the first base which allowed O'Geen to score another unearned run, making the score 2-0.
 
Mercyhurst extended their lead in the third inning when Dejidas doubled to left center, allowing Fry to score, 3-0. In the fifth inning, Dejidas doubled again to left center, this time bringing in Cheyenne Hindman and O'Geen, which extended Mercyhurst's lead to 5-0.
 
In the sixth inning, Slippery Rock attempted to make a comeback with Alexsa Hurd hitting a home run and bringing in her teammate, which added two runs to their score, making the score 5-2. Despite that Mercyhurst was able to maintain their lead and ultimately won the game.
 
Second Game
Slippery Rock started off strong in the first inning, as they scored a run first gaining 1-0 lead. Mercyhurst quickly responded when Eliza Reynolds hit a single to left center, allowing Brianne Egelston to score, tying the game at 1-1.
 
Slippery Rock regained the lead in the fourth making the score 2-1, but Mercyhurst quickly responded once again, with Dejidas hitting a double that drove in three runs and giving Mercyhurst a 4-2 lead. Marisa Cartellone then hit a single to right center, bringing in three of her teammates to make it 7-2.
 
In the sixth inning, Cartellone walked, driving in Egelston and extending Mercyhurst's lead to 8-2. Slippery Rock refused to give up and made a comeback in the seventh, with Chloe Sharman hitting a homerun and eventually bringing Slippery Rock's score to 8-5.
 
Playoff Picture
The Lakers are currently fourth in the PSAC West standings with 13-9 conference mark. Seton Hill is still first (15-5), followed by Slippery Rock (14-9).
 
What's Next
Mercyhurst hits the road on Friday, April 21st, to take on Pitt-Johnstown with the first game starting at 2:00 p.m. before seeing IUP the following day.
