Erie, Pa. – Mercyhurst Softball readies for another busy week of PSAC play as they are entering the final stages of their regular season. With six doubleheaders remaining, they sit in fourth place in PSAC West and are looking to improve their position before the playoffs. They are scheduled to play Slippery Rock on Wednesday, April 19th, at home and hit the road to take on Pitt-Johnstown on Friday, April 21st, and IUP on Saturday, April 22nd.
1. Playoff Picture
Seton Hill sits at the top of the standings with a 15-5 conference record and is followed by Slippery Rock with a 14-7 mark. Gannon is right behind them at 12-8 and one game behind them is Mercyhurst at 11-9. The competition this year has been very balanced as teams are capable of surprising and beating anybody in the PSAC play despite their current record. The Lakers are looking to climb up the standings this week and bring winning momentum into postseason play.
2. Individual Leaders
Mercyhurst has some impressive individual leaders based on their overall batting statistics.
Allison Dejidas stands out with an impressive .447 batting average, 1.260 OPS, and 9 home runs in 38 games played.
Madison Fry also has great stats with a .433 batting average, .968 OPS, and 20 stolen bases in 35 games played.
Anna O'Geen has a respectable .358 batting average and 14 stolen bases in 38 games played.
Cheyenne Hindman is second on the team in home runs as she registered six of them this season and boasts a .339 batting average.
3. Scouting Slippery Rock
The Rock boasts 23-16 overall record and a 14-7 conference mark. They are coming out of a difficult week as they defeated IUP twice, split with Clarion, and lost a game to Cal (Pa.). Alexsa Hurd leads her squad with .422 batting average, 54 hits, and seven home runs on the season. The Lakers have dominated Slippery Rock this season as they won both games played against them, winning them 12-0 and 8-5.
4. Scouting Pitt-Johnstown
The Mountain Cats are currently 11-23 on the season and are placed eight in the conference standings with a 6-16 conference mark. The Lakers already defeated them twice this season, winning the first game by a score of 9-1 and the second 11-3. Kayla Miehl leads the charge with .361 batting average and eight home runs so far this season.
5. Scouting IUP
Winning against the Crimson Hawks is set to be a key for improving the Lakers' position in the standings as IUP currently boasts the same 11-9 conference mark and already beat Mercyhurst twice before. A freshman, Delaney Patell, leads her team with .402 batting average, 37 hits, and seven home runs so far.
