Findlay, Oh. - Mercyhurst Baseball saw their eight-game win streak come to an end in their nonconference mid-week matchup with Findlay. The Lakers are now 17-8 on the year with an 11-1 record in the PSAC after their 11-7 and 17-3 losses at the hands of the Oilers.
How It Happened
Game One
The Lakers started off with a deficit as Findlay struck first with a solo home run in the bottom of the first. Mercyhurst did not stay down for long with them scoring a trio of runs in the top of the second to take a 3-1 lead. A ground ball RBI from Lucas Folmar got the scoring started with John Susnik following with a single that took a large bound over the third basemen's head, making it 2-1. Mitchell Grosch provided the biggest hit with a double to right center to score the Laker backstop to take the two-run advantage.
Findlay didn't wait around all too long to reclaim the lead, though, as they managed to score six in the bottom of the third to take a 7-3 advantage. Mercyhurst's starter Ryan Rafalski was chased from the game after giving up his second home run of the contest, a three-run shot, followed by a triple. Findlay then added on in both the fourth and fifth frames to make the score 11-3 as the Oilers had claimed the momentum.Â
Mercyhurst did manage to make things interesting with four runs over the last two frames. They scored three in the top of the sixth with Zachary Kouorus getting his first collegiate home run to begin the scoring, sending a no-doubter over the right field wall. Consecutive RBI singles from Eric Chorba and Vincent Stutz helped the team inch closer, but it proved too little, too late in the 11-7 loss.
Game Two
The Lakers were able to fire the opening salvo with a pair of runs in the top of the second inning. Both runs came courtesy of a home run off the bat of Lucas Folmar, giving him his third on the season after hitting a pair in the team's season opener against D'Youville.
Findlay had a rebuttal in the bottom of the frame as they ended up taking a lead they would never relinquish, scoring seven runs. After the Lakers scored one in the top of the third, the Oilers came back with eight more in their half of the canto to make it a 15-3 game.
The Lakers did all they could to hang around in the game, but the deficit proved to be too large as they fell by a final of 17-3.
Highlights
Zachary Kourous led the team in hits with three, including his first home run at the collegiate level, while walking once. Lucas Folmar joined Kourous with a dinger of his own as his led to the first two runs of the second game. The Laker first baseman finished 2-3 with his home run and one base on balls.
