Mount Olive, NC – Mercyhurst Softball splits on the second day of competition with a 10-0 victory over West Liberty and a tough 9-2 loss to Mount Olive.
First Game
The Lakers came back to the Nancy Chapman Casell Field for another busy day in North Carolina's sun. Mercyhurst started the first game slowly, as the Tigers jumped out to 2-0 lead. Marisa Cartellone's RBI single in the fourth inning and Kaci Alderson's homer in the sixth inning were standout moments for Mercyhurst as they helped them crack the scoreboard.
However, they were not enough to come back into the game. The Lakers put up a valiant effort but ultimately fell short with a final score of 9-2.
Second Game
The Lakers returned to the diamond for one more game on the day, and their offense was simply on fire, with standout performances from Francesca Latino, Neena Pietripaolo, and Madison Fry.
Latino's double in the second inning drove in two runs, and Pietripaolo followed up with an RBI single to extend the Laker's lead to 3-0. In the fourth inning, Pietripaolo continued her hot streak with another RBI single, driving in Latino who had advanced to third base.
Allison Dejidas and Anna O'Green also contributed to Mercyhurst's offensive onslaught with RBI singles in the fourth and fifth innings, respectively. Fry added to the Laker's lead with an RBI single of her own in the fifth inning, and Pietripaolo capped off her impressive performance with another RBI single to bring in O'Green.
Mercyhurst's defense was equally impressive, holding West Liberty to zero runs throughout the game. Cheyenne Hindman's two-RBI single in the fifth inning sealed the deal for the Lakers, who celebrated a resounding 10-0 victory.

The Lakers hit the road again on Saturday, March 11th, as they travel to Glenville, WV for another busy weekend, where they are scheduled to take on Glenville State, Frostburg, and Ohio Dominican.
