Softball Readies for Busy Week

Erie, Pa. – Mercyhurst Softball prepares for more PSAC action this week as they travel to Slippery Rock, Pa. for another doubleheader on Tuesday, March 28th, and follow that with a matchup against D'Youville on Wednesday, March 29th. They return home to take on Pitt-Johnstown on Friday, March 31st, and IUP on Saturday, April 1st.
 
1. Season Recap
The Lakers are currently 10-10 on the season after defeating Cal (Pa.) twice and falling to Seton Hill on the road, they are 5th in the PSAC Standings with a 2-2 conference record. Mercyhurst is looking to improve their mark this week, as they are scheduled to play three PSAC doubleheaders, with two of them coming in front of the home crowd at the Mercyhurst Softball Field. Seton Hill sits at the first spot in the conference standings with 11-7 overall record and 4-0 in conference. They are the only team in the West that still boasts an undefeated conference mark.
 
2. Statistical Leaders
Allison Dejidas continues to lead the team with a .462 batting average and a slugging percentage of .785. She has played in all 20 games, recording 65 at-bats, 14 runs, and 30 hits, including six doubles and a team-leading five home runs. Madison Fry has also been an important part of the team's success with a batting average of .400 and an OPS of.903. She has played in 17 games, recording 65 at-bats, 16 runs, and 26 hits, including three doubles and one triple. Anna O'Geen has also been consistent in her performances, with a batting average of .381 and 24 total bases to her line, good enough to be tied for fourth among the Lakers.
 
3. Scouting Slippery Rock
The Rock is currently 12-12 on the season and has recently split their doubleheader with Cal (Pa.) last Saturday and fell to Clarion twice last Wednesday. Alexa Hurd leads her team with an impressive .475 batting average, 38 hits and four home runs on the season. Slippery Rock is looking to improve their conference record and climb up the standings this week.
 
4. Scouting Pitt-Johnstown
The Lakers return home for a home stretch on Friday, March 31st starting with a matchup against the Mountain Cats. Pitt-Johnstown sits right behind Mercyhurst in the conference standings, as they boast a 7-9 overall record and are 2-2 in the conference. Kayla Miehl leads the charge with .380 batting average, 19 hits and four home runs this season.
 
5. Scouting IUP
The Crimson Hawks are another well-balanced team near the .500 mark, as they are currently 10-11 on the season and 1-3 in PSAC play. They just split their doubleheader against Gannon this past Sunday and are scheduled to hit the road and play Cal (Pa.) and Edinboro before seeing Mercyhurst on Saturday, April 1st. Paige Truax leads her squad with .323 batting average and 21 hits on the season, proving to be someone the Lakers must stop to be grab the win.
