Softball Prepares for PSAC Play

Erie, Pa – Mercyhurst Softball begin PSAC competition this week as they take on Cal (Pa.) on Wednesday, March 22nd, and follow that with another doubleheader on Saturday, March 25th against Seton Hill.
 
1. Home Opener
The Lakers played their first home game last Thursday as they returned to Mercyhurst Softball Field for some intense action against Notre Dame (Oh.). Mercyhurst dropped the first game 8-7, but dominated in the second one and eventually won by a score of 10-2. Allison Dejidas shone with a pair of home runs in her two games, going 3-5 with six RBIs to lead the team. Anna O'Geen and Cheyenne Hindman tied for the team lead in hits with five apiece while Hindman added a pair of doubles and a homer to her line.
 
2. Statistical Leaders
Allison Dejidas leads the team with a batting average of .489 and a slugging percentage of .844. She has been consistent in all 14 games played with 45 at-bats, 11 runs, and 22 hits, including 4 home runs and 14 RBIs. Anna O'Geen follows closely behind with a batting average of .419 and an on-base percentage of .457. She has also played in all 14 games and recorded 43 at-bats, 13 runs, and 18 hits. Cheyenne Hindman has been another key player for the team, with a batting average of .362 and a slugging percentage of .638. She has recorded 47 at-bats, 11 runs, and 17 hits, including 7 doubles and 2 home runs.
 
3. Scouting Vulcans
Cal (Pa.) is currently 7-9 on the year and is scheduled to begin their PSAC play on Tuesday, March 21st, against Pitt-Johnstown. The Vulcans haven't played a game since March 7th when they fell to West Virginia Wesleyan, 2-1. Kaitlyn Achtermeier has been a standout performer for her squad, in all 15 games played, she has recorded an impressive batting average of .409 and a slugging percentage of .614. The Vulcans are looking to improve their record, and start the conference play well.
 
4. Scouting Seton Hill
The Griffins boast a 7-7 overall record and are coming out of a win against Holy Family, 1-0 and an impressive victory against Wheeling, 13-1. Seton Hill was set to begin conference play last Saturday against Clarion, but the game has been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 21st.
 
5. What's Next
After this week's schedule, the Lakers are set to continue their season with another busy week. They are scheduled to take on Slippery Rock on Tuesday, March 28th,, and D'Youville on Wednesday, March 29th. They will also play Pitt-Johnstown on Friday, March 31st to round out the month while seeing IUP on Saturday, April 1st.
