Ashland, Oh. - Mercyhurst Baseball went on their road for an early week matchup with Ashland with the Lakers unable to get the win. They and the Eagles got the bats going in this one with Mercyhurst unable to come out on top in the 15-11 defeat.
How it Happened
The first two innings went by without a whimper as neither team could score. Ashland ended up firing the opening salvo in the bottom of the third as they took a 1-0 lead. Mercyhurst had a rebuttal with a trio of runs in the top of the third, cracking the scoreboard for the first time in the contest. All three came off of a triple off the bat of Ryan Hill as the Lakers had taken their first lead of a game.
Ashland ended up finding their rhythm at the plate with seven runs in the bottom of the fourth to take an 8-3 lead into the middle innings. The Eagles got it started with an RBI single while grabbing a triple and double as well to take control of the game. The Lakers didn't lay down as they managed to have their biggest inning of the game in the fifth. A home run from Chris Juchno proved to be the jolt Mercyhurst needed with his three-run shot making it an 8-7 game.Â
After Ashland scored three, John Susnik joined Juchno with a homer of his own in the sixth inning with his being a solo shot. It was the third run of the inning for Mercyhurst, managing to reclaim the lead at 10-9 going into the bottom of the sixth. The Eagles managed to have a response with three runs in the bottom of the frame to claim a lead they would never relinquish. Mercyhurst did manage to score one more time with a double off the bat of Matt Christopher in the top of the eighth, but it was not enough as the Lakers fell by a final of 15-11.
