ERIE, Pa.—The No. 16 Mercyhurst Wrestling team earned a 29-19 win over No. 13 Millersville on Senior Day Saturday afternoon with No. 4
Eric Bartos taking down the No. 1 wrestler in the nation at 133.
Bartos had a 3-0 lead going into the final period of the bout, but Devin Flannery evened things early in the third. An escaped pushed Bartos to victory over No. 1 Flannery.
The match began with the 141 bout where
Jake Niffenegger put the Lakers out front early collecting a decision. Going into the final period tied at 2, Niffenegger got an escape and a late takedown to win 5-2.
After a scoreless first period in the 149 bout,
Mike Zacur dropped a 4-0 decision squaring things for the teams at three. After a Millersville forfeit at 157, Mike Clark lost by tech fall.
No. 6
Dillon Walker righted the ship for the Lakers earning a first period pinfall in the 174 bout.
Chase Stein followed that with another six points for the Lakers getting the pin at 2:36.
No. 9
Luke McGonigal collected the third bonus point win for the Lakers with a tech fall putting Mercyhurst up 26-8.
The heavyweight bout ended in a tech fall in favor of Millersville. The Marauders also won by pinfall at 125.
The Lakers travel to No. 9 Pitt-Johnstown next Friday to close out the regular season.
