Lakers Capture Mid-Week Win Over Tiffin

Erie, PA- The Mercyhurst Women's Basketball team went for their sixth straight win today and overcame Tiffin University by a score of 55-42. The Lakers are now 6-2 on the season and extend their winning streak to 6, which ties a program record since joining the PSAC. The team will now begin preparing for back-to-back home games before the holiday break.

How it Happened:

Tiffin got the scoring started with a three from the wing, but Bailey Kuhns answered right back with a midrange jumper. The offensive leader for the Lakers was dominant today, totaling 23 points and 6 rebounds. At the end of the first quarter however, Tiffin grabbed a 16-11 lead.

Lauren Klare and Julia Buchman jumpstarted the squad to start the second quarter, converting a layup and a shot from beyond the arc. Bailey Kuhns then scored in back-to-back possession to give the Lakers the lead. Mercyhurst outscored the Dragons 19-7 in the second quarter to grab the halftime lead, 30-23.

To start the 3rd quarter, Tiffin went on a little run of their own, outscoring the Lakers 7-0 in the first two minutes. The two teams then went back and forth for the remainder of the 3rd, until Danielle Grim took over in the last two minutes. With a minute left in the quarter, Grim hit a three from the wing to give the Lakers a 3-point lead. With eight seconds left in the quarter Grim then hit a step back three ball to give Mercyhurst a six-point lead heading into the final frame.

It was all Mercyhurst in the 4th quarter, as the Laker defense took over the game. Brooklyn Kohlheim's group held the Dragons to just 1 of 15 shooting to end the game. The stellar defense allowed the lead to balloon to 13 with the final score being 55-42.

Highlights:

Bailey Kuhns scored over 20 points for the second time this season. Kuhns shot 50% from the floor today and tallied 6 rebounds in the win.

Lauren Klare continues to be a threat. Posting 10 points again today, Klare continues to shoot the lights out, as she shot it at a 50% clip from the floor in today's game.

Danielle Grim, as usual, was a force on the glass, helping the Lakers out rebound the Dragons by grabbing 13 herself.

Up Next:

The Lakers will have back-to-back home games on December 18th and 19th, before enjoying the holiday break. On Monday the 18th, the team will play host to West Chester University before welcoming Millersville on Tuesday. The two games are scheduled for 5:30 and 1:00 PM respectively.
