Erie, PA- The Mercyhurst Women's Basketball team prepares for two home games in back-to-back days as they host West Chester on Monday, December 18th, and Millersville on Tuesday, December 19th. Coming into the games with an overall record of 6-2, the Lakers search for their 7th and 8th straight win, which would classify as a program record since joining the PSAC in 2008. Each game is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
Scouting West Chester
West Chester enters the contest with an overall record of 7-1, and a conference record of 2-0. As a team, the Rams average 75 points per game and shoot over 40% from the field. West Chester provides an inside out threat which features Senior Guard, Leah Johnson, and Senior Center, Emily McAteer. Both Johnson and McAteer average over 14 points per game and lead the charge offensively. With conference wins over Slippery Rock and Edinboro, this Monday's matchup should be a back-and-forth affair featuring two quality PSAC teams.
Scouting Millersville
Millersville comes into Tuesday's contest averaging about 60 points a game, giving up 66 to the opposition. Millersville is another squad that finds ways to put the ball in the basket. Makiah Shaw and La'Shrya Williams both average double digits in points per game and provide plenty of rebound production as well. In their lone matchup with Mercyhurst a year ago, the Lakers came out on top by a score of 75-62.
Lakers Outlook
Since playing in the MEC vs PSAC Challenge to start the season, the Lakers have found their stride. Winning 6 games in a row, Mercyhurst has proved to be a force within the PSAC West. Led by Bailey Kuhns and Danielle Grim, who both lead the charge offensively, the Lakers provide depth that is hard to defend. Aside from Kuhns and Grim, Julia Buchman, Paige Woodford, and Lauren Klare all have the ability to take over a game.
The Laker defense has also shown up in a big way to start the season. Currently, the team allows only 53 points a game. They've also tallied 29 blocks, and 51 steals as a team so far this year.
Next Up
After the back-to-back, the Lakers will finish off December with an away game on the 30th at Shepherd University. The game is slated for 1:00 PM.
