Box Score

Erie, PA- The Mercyhurst Women's Soccer team held on to a 2-1 lead in the quarterfinal round of the PSAC championships this evening defeating Seton Hill to advance to the PSAC Semifinals. The win marks the third time Mercyhurst has defeated the Griffins this season. After solidifying the number one seed in the west, the Lakers will now matchup against West Chester University, the number two seed in the East.

How it Happened:

In what started out as an evenly played first half, the Lakers quickly flipped the script, taking a 1-0 lead a little over 20 minutes into the match.

After Maycen Anthony secured the ball defensively off a turnover, she advanced the ball beautifully up the right side for Teagan Mehalko. Mehalko outran a Seton Hill defender and centered a perfect ball for Corinne Morgan. Morgan gathered and snuck a ball under a diving keeper to give the Lakers a first half lead.

Seton Hill threw some punches early, but the Laker defense was up to the task. They halted all opposing attacks in the first half and went into halftime with a one goal lead.

The second half brought playoff intensity, with Seton Hill leaving everything out on the field. After a back and forth start to the second half, Paulina Harr extended the Laker lead to 2. Harr launched a ball that smacked the cross bar, but trickled in.

Nearly a minute later, Samantha Hallo snuck one past the Laker defense to make the score 2-1 with a little over ten minutes to play. As time dwindled, the Laker defense stepped up, turning away the Griffins on a couple of occasions. With desperation setting in, the horn went off and the Lakers advanced.

Highlights:

Teagan Mehalko recorded her 4th assist of the year, while Corinne Morgan converted her team leading 11th goal on the season. Paulina Harr scored her second goal of the year, which turned out to be the deciding factor in the victory.

Strong play by the Giffins was turned away on multiple occasions by the defensive front of Taryn Baxter, Maycen Anthony and Alyssa Poleski
