Men's Soccer Set for PSAC Tournament Quarterfinal

Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst Men's Soccer team is set to host Seton Hill in a quarterfinal matchup in the PSAC tournament on Monday. The Lakers will look to defend their PSAC tournament title from a year ago. The Lakers returned a number of players from last year's team, so they have the experience of playing in the postseason.  

PSAC Tournament 

Monday marks the start of the PSAC tournament and the Lakers hold the two seed in the west. The Lakers will open the tournament with a quarterfinal matchup against Seton Hill at home. If the Lakers win, they will advance to the semifinal where they will meet Millersville. The winner of the semifinal game will advance to the championship.  

Season Review 

The Lakers finished the regular season with a 14-2-1 record overall and a 7-2-1 record in the PSAC. The Lakers started the year on a six-game winning streak before they suffered their first loss of the season to Gannon. They finished the rest of the year 8-1-1 with a tie to Gannon and a loss to Seton Hill. During their 8-1-1 stretch they won five in a row before suffering a loss and a tie but finished the regular season on a three-game winning streak. The defense and goaltending helped the Lakers post nine shutouts on the year.    

Stats Leaders 

Dylan Sumner led the Lakers in goals with 14. Sumner went six straight games with a goal including a hat-trick against UPJ. Sumner also finished third in goals in the PSAC. Andreas Rossak and Ignacio Gallego finished tied for second in goals with six. Frank Lovett finished with nine assists, which led the team by a wide margin. Lovett finished fourth in assists in the PSAC. Jamie Tedaldi was 12-1-1 in the net with eight shutouts, and 19 saves.  

A Look at the Opponent 

The Lakers faced Seton Hill twice during the regular season, splitting the season series. The Lakers took the first matchup 3-0 in Greensburg, while Seton Hill took the second matchup 1-0 in Erie. Seton Hill finished the regular season 5-11-1 overall and 4-5-1 in the PSAC. Their 4-5-1 conference record was good enough to clinch a spot in the PSAC tournament as the three seed in the west.
