The Mercyhurst Women's Soccer team begins postseason play this week with a quarterfinal matchup with Seton Hill University. Having had success against them in the past, it is a game the Lakers know they must treat with a do or die mindset. Outscoring the Griffins 6-0 in the regular season, the Lakers now see them at home for the second time this year. It is a welcome sight for Lakers fans, as this year's squad is yet to lose on their own turf.
Seton Hill finished regular season play with an overall record of 7-10-1, and a conference record of 6-9-1. The Griffins have had eight goal scorers so far this year. Leading the bunch is Jessica Molitoris, who was an all PSAC West selection a year ago. Senior keeper, Lindsey Pazdziorko rounds out the defensive unit and has helped Seton Hill reach the post season, blocking 76% of the shots against her.
The Lakers on the other side bring a roster full of players who can put the ball in the net. Currently the team has had 14 different players convert on the offensive end. Mercyhurst has arguably the best goal scorer in the conference, Karah Van Horn, and possibly the fastest player in the West, in Corinne Morgan. Madison Hoover and Camille Bultel add to the team's versatility as they aren't strangers to taking over a match single handedly.
Defensively, the Lakers feature two former players of the year, Taryn Baxter and Maddie Elbro. The shutouts have spoken for themselves and tell the tale of how dominant and pesky this defensive unit is. Maycen Anthony and Alyssa Poleski are also two veterans that have experienced playoff soccer and can help shut down opposing attacks.
The Lakers went on a 12-game winning streak throughout the middle portion of their schedule. In that time, the team experienced different schemes and traps to counter their balanced attack, but Head Coach Rich Wall was ready. Now with a target on their back, the team will look to stay in stride heading into post season play on Monday.
Monday's game is scheduled for 3:00PM at Saxon Stadium. There will be no cash transactions for ticket sales. To purchase your tickets ahead of time, please click here.
